Patagonia – Outdoor Clothing & Environmentalist

Updated: 15 Dec 2021

It is a rare occurrence for me to discover a company that are so aligned with the same principles and ethics that I hold true.

However, one such company is Patagonia Outdoor Clothing and Gear (Read more…) who are not only a highly respected and top Outdoor Clothing and Equipment retailer, but since their foundation they have held strong principles and ethics on modern day activism.

Patagonia is an American clothing company that markets and sells outdoor clothing and gear. The company was founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973 and are based in Ventura, California.

They have hundreds of stores in 10+ countries across 5 continents, as well as factories in 16 countries.

Patagonia are in the “business to save our home planet” and take action on the most pressing environmental issues facing the world.

I support and promote Patagonia as a company and here are some of my reasons.

Patagonia has a self-imposed Earth Tax, 1% for the planet

The company has a self-imposed Earth Tax, 1% for the planet – they provide support to environmental non-profits working to defend our air, land and water around the globe. Since 1985, Patagonia has awarded more than $100miliion in cash and in-kind donations to grassroot groups. (Learn more…).

Over the past year, Patagonia have funded 1,020 groups working on issues from biodiversity loss to climate change (Learn more…)

Patagonia are connecting individuals with grantees to take action on the most pressing issues facing the world today.

Patagonia Action Works (Learn more…) will help to discover events, petitions and skilled volunteering opportunities in you local area and donate money to local causes.

So are you involved with a grassroot environmental group? If so, Patagonia gives grants to organisations that identify the root causes of environmental problems and approach issues with a commitment to long term change.

Worn Wear (Learn more…) is Patagonia’s hub for keeping gear in play. Why extend the life of gear? Because the best thing we can do for the planet is cut down on consumption and get more use out of stuff we already own.

Patagonia have also linked with Sports Activism and are using their role in the sport community to drive positive social and environment change.

As protection against the elements, I need the very best high-quality outdoor clothing and equipment.

As a photographer, expedition leader and conservationist, much of my work takes me to cold weather climates. As protection against the elements, I need the very best high-quality outdoor clothing and equipment. Patagonia provides me with this clothing and equipment and has done so for the past few years.

Here are links to the Patagonia websites both in Europe and the USA.

So what is my connection with Patagonia?

As a long time admirer, I am pleased to have been selected onto the Patagonia Pro Program (Learn more…) Not only do they design and produce great high-quality outdoor clothing and equipment; but they also hold strong principles and ethics for global environmental issues much in line with my own views.
